ISGlobal-led consortium launches EChiLiBRiST, a Project to Reduce Child Mortality in Africa. EChiLiBRiST is a 5-year project, funded by Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Program, which aims to develop and validate a rapid test for early recognition and improved management of febrile children at risk of severe diseases
Clinical Trial 1: Can our test improve current triaging strategies?
in Mozambique and Gabon

70%
severe infections
are missed at triage
90%
of fevers referred to
tertiary hospitals are mild infections
50% of children at risk die at the community level without access to life-saving interventions
Clinical Trial 2: Can we design a useful treatment based on sTREM-1 levels?

BEYOND CLINICAL RESEARCH
Beyond a rigorous clinical assessment of the developed product and product-based strategies, EChiLiBRiST will also assess cost-effectiveness, feasibility, acceptability and scalability of the interventions. The data generated will be useful to model and predict impact and cost-savings of the interventions in different scenarios.
Additionally, EChiLiBRiST is fully committed to research capacity building in the African participating countries (Mozambique, Ethiopia and Gabon), which includes the training of 3 African graduates with different disciplinary backgrounds to obtain the PhD.
