The goal of i4KIDS Innovation Awards is to promote high-impact innovation in maternal and child care.

i4KIDS Innovation Program has awarded the second edition of the Start Prize to our project “Developing a point-of-care test for risk stratification of febrile patients: a biosensor to predict severity”, presented by ISGlobal researchers, Quique Bassat and Barbara Baro, on behalf of the EChiLiBRiST consortium. i4KIDS is a Pediatric Innovation Hub of 25 institutions, coordinated by Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, aimed at promoting pediatric research and innovation able to impact society and childcare.

The prize consists in 15,000 EUR to invest in consultancy services to support intellectual property assessment and market access studies related to the development of the proposed test. Moreover, it includes access to a Preacceleration Program of Barcelona Activa, a program we will perform from September 2022 to January 2023 to work on our strategy to bring EChiLiBRiST’s test to the market. This Preacceleration Program is supported by the Barcelona City Council and co-funded by the European Union to promote the creation and growth of high-impact technological enterprises.

This prize was announced during the 2022 Pediatrics Innovation Day, held at Cosmo Caixa in Barcelona on 21st September, where the Catalan Pediatrics Innovation ecosystem met to learn about the latest efforts, challenges, investment opportunities and projects. Dr. Bassat connected remotely from Gabon, to thank i4KIDS for the prize and to highlight our mission, while Dr. Baro attended in person to collect the prize and present the project to the audience in a short talk.
